In early July 2015, four members of Heroes Are Gang Leaders––Thomas Sayers Ellis, Margaret Morris, James Brandon Lewis and Luke Stewart––traveled to Boulder, Colorado for a week at The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics and spontaneously recorded The Avant-Age Garde I AMs of the Gal Luxury, worked with Ambrose Bye and Devin Brahja Waldman for the first time, enlisted the services of Lydia Lunch and Thurston Moore, hung out with the mysterious No Land (a future HAGL member herself) and were photographed by Bil Brown.
BIL BROWN is a poet, photographer, and editor. A graduate of The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics in the 1990s, when Allen Ginsberg, Anne Waldman, Peter Lamborn Wilson (Hakim Bey), Bernadette Mayer and others were most active as leaders of a poetics. In the late 90s, he became an art director and photographer working for the motion picture industry in Prague, Czech Republic while co-founding the Prague School of Poetics (Prazska Skola Poetiky). Often contributor to PURPLE FASHION MAGAZINE, the premier publication of the art-based Anti-Fashion movement for the last 25 years, Leica Fotographie International, FLAUNT, INTERVIEW, PAPER, NUMERO, SCHON, AUTRE, and others.
